Tourists still face a challenging journey through dense fog to reach the peak of Doi Inthanon

Tourists can experience lush foliage and fog on Thai highlands between the wet and cold seasons. Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain, remains popular. Now, climbers must fight through dense fog to reach the summit. Some locations have 10-meter visibility.

This morning, the Chom Thong area of Chiang Mai, where Inthanon mountain is located, was blanketed in dense fog. Some sections of the road on the mountain, a popular destination for tourists, had visibility of less than 10 meters. To lessen the likelihood of collisions, drivers were obligated to activate their headlights.

In the early hours of today, the temperature on the mountain dropped to a chilly 10 degrees Celsius. The low temperature was 12 degrees Celsius at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint, which is somewhat below the mountain’s peak. Early this morning, a large number of sightseers flocked to the viewpoint, only to be disappointed when they discovered that the fog and clouds were blocking their view of the sunrise. The guests came prepared for the cold weather by dressing for the season and bringing blankets.

The Meteorological Department predicts a small increase in temperature in northern Thailand, along with localized fog and rain. This is due to the fact that upper Thailand, the Eastern Region, and the lower half of the Central Region are all being blanketed by a weak cold airmass. Winds from the east are bringing humidity from the Gulf of Thailand and could bring precipitation to the Greater Bangkok area.
