A musical tribute to King Rama IX is being organized by the Ministry of Culture

To celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s birthday on December 5, the Ministry of Culture has announced the “Winter Love Songs” event, to which the public is cordially invited to attend.

The Suntaraporn Band and the Chalermraj Band, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Fine Arts Department, will perform several of the magnificent musical works penned by the late King Rama IX on December 8 and 9.

Permanent Secretary for Culture Yupha Taweewattanakitborvon stated at a press conference attended by the Secretariat of Suntaraporn Foundation under royal patronage, Atiporn Senawong, the Thai National Symphony Orchestra, and several famous singers from the Suntaraporn band that the festival allows Thais all over the country to express their deepest gratitude and honor His Majesty’s great musical talents and his immeasurable generosity towards his subjects.

A series of musical and cultural events, as well as daily exercises for ministry officials and the general public, will be held in each province to mark the occasion, as announced by Yupha, who added that the ministry has also charged each province with launching the “Cultural Plaza of Happiness” campaign. She said that this is in line with government policy to encourage harmony and wellness among government workers, as well as to provide individuals who desire to earn extra money the chance to do so by selling goods and services at these events.

Over the course of the two-day event, locations across the kingdom will host performances of several works by King Rama IX, including the internationally renowned Duang Jai Kap Kwarm Ruk, Kaew Ta Kwan, Oh I Say, and The Impossible Dream, according to Kowit Phakamas, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion.

Kowit also stated that on December 1 and 2, anybody in Bangkok interested in learning the fundamentals of dance through popular rhythms may do so at no cost at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center.

Those who are interested in signing up for the dance class can do so by dialing 02-247-0028, extension 4104 or 4119.
