The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has stated that it would meet with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the commercial sector to explore ideas to improve the Amazing Thailand Marathon in 2023.
TAT, Tri-League, and Toyota Thailand collaborated to put up this year’s marathon on November 20. The race included four distance options: a 42.195-kilometer marathon, a half-marathon of 21 kilometers, a 10-kilometer run, and a 5-kilometer family fun run.
Minister of Tourism and Sports Pipat Ratchakitprakarn opened the event at the Rajamangala National Stadium, and participants then made their way through some of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks, including the Victory Monument, the Rama 8 bridge, the old parliament building, and the Benchamabophit Marble Temple. About 25,000 people took part in the event, including Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.
Runner Yimer Ari of Ethiopia finished the marathon in 2:21:36, earning him the first place trophy presented by His Majesty the King and the grand prize of 100,000 Thai Baht. Sanchai Namkhet finished the race in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 24 seconds, and was rewarded 50,000 Thai baht as the race’s first runner-up. Natthawut In-noom took third place with a timing of 2:27:07, earning him 30,000 baht in prize money.
Kenya’s Shelmith Muriuki won the women’s marathon in 2:39:38, earning her a plaque from the Queen and a 100,000 baht grand prize. In second place was the Russian runner Alexandra Morozova with a time of 2:49:07, while in third place was the Kenyan runner Magaret Njuguna.
Linda Chanthachid, a Thai woman, ran the marathon in 2 hours, 55 minutes, and 30 seconds, winning the national competition. Her Majesty the Queen awarded her with a trophy and 50,000 Thai Baht in cash.
Kepha Ongeri Ondima, a second Kenyan, won the half marathon in 1:04:07 and was presented with a trophy by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati.
Marta Birehan of Ethiopia finished the women’s half marathon with a winning time of 1:19:47. HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati also presented her with a trophy and 50,000 baht for her efforts.
