Thailand Plans Evacuation of Citizens from Sudan Amid Turmoil
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced its plans to evacuate Thai nationals from Sudan, following recent violence in the African country. Thai students have reportedly been gathering in a safe area in Khartoum, organized by Thai officials, to await evacuation.
To ensure the safe return of its citizens, Thailand will use air, land, and sea routes. The ministry has outlined three options for evacuating from Khartoum. These include air travel via Khartoum Airport, land travel through South Sudan or Ethiopia and Egypt, and sea travel from Khartoum to Port Sudan and onward to Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia. The ministry has said it will collaborate with relevant countries and allies to facilitate the evacuation process.
The Royal Thai Air Force has prepared an aircraft for evacuation, which will be on standby in a safe area within the next 1-2 days. The force aims to provide the safest possible evacuation for Thai citizens in Sudan.
The evacuation comes amid the worsening political and economic crisis in Sudan, which has seen a military coup and widespread protests. The ministry has urged Thai citizens to avoid traveling to Sudan until the situation stabilizes.
