Bangkok, Thailand – In a significant move to address the growing demand for digital technology experts in Thailand’s labor market, discussions have been initiated between Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Prasert Jantararuangtong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul disclosed that the Department of Local Administration is actively exploring the possibility of extending the stay duration for foreign technology experts in Thailand. The proposed extension, from the current three months to a more accommodating one-year stay, is being considered in line with recommendations put forth by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. Pending any security concerns, it appears that this initiative could gain rapid approval, with a strong emphasis on expeditious resolution of the proposal’s details.
Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong underscored the pressing issue of a severe shortage of skilled labor within the digital technology sector in Thailand. To address this shortage and encourage foreign experts to live and work in the country, it is imperative to work closely with the Ministry of Interior to amend existing regulations. The process of drafting policy changes has already commenced, and plans for further discussions will be set in motion once these changes are finalized.
This move reflects Thailand’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to attracting and retaining foreign digital technology experts, thereby bolstering the nation’s digital economy and technological advancement. As the government and relevant ministries work in tandem to streamline regulations and extend stay options, Thailand is poised to become an even more attractive destination for global tech talent.
