Prime Minister Addresses PM2.5 Dust Problem, Advocates Environmental Measures

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin recently visited Ratchaprasong intersection, addressing the concerning issue of PM2.5 dust particles. He urged businesses, construction sites, and building owners capable of water spraying to take action to mitigate the problem. Emphasizing the importance of managing vehicle emissions, he urged effective measures while advocating for the adoption of electric engines.

The Ministry of Industry was instructed to monitor agricultural burning activities, aiming to safeguard air quality without prohibiting the practice entirely. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that compliance with government policies would lead to improved air quality.

Deputy Secretary-General Jakkapol Tangsutthitham, overseeing environmental affairs, emphasized the government’s proactive stance on the issue. A committee has been formed to implement immediate solutions, including promoting the draft Clean Air Act.

The government has outlined comprehensive measures in short, medium, and long-term phases, encompassing tax enhancements, stricter controls on agricultural burning, transitioning to electric vehicles, and imposing stringent penalties under the “Polluters Pay Principle.” These steps are geared towards fostering awareness and long-term sustainability in combatting air pollution.
