Transportation Developments Unveiled in Nakhon Ratchasima Meeting

In a recent gathering at Luang Phor Koon Parisuttho’s meeting room, Mr. Kittisak Theerawatthana, Deputy Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, took charge of a meeting focused on crucial developments in the transportation sector. The discussions primarily revolved around the implementation of the double-track railway project connecting Map Kabao to Chira Road Junction, the high-speed rail phase connecting Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima, and the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Mass Transit System Project, Green Line. Key figures from various entities, including Mr. Charoon Jongkraijak and Mr. Chaiwit Burasomboon, represented different organizations at the meeting.

One significant agenda item, presented by Mr. Kritsada Matchimapiro, Construction Supervising Engineer, SRT, addressed alterations to the train route alignment in the Map Kabao Section – Jira Road Junction, Contract 2 Khlong Khanchit Section – Jira Road Junction. The proposed changes offered three alternatives, each with distinct implications. The first option involved demolishing the Department of Highways bridge, the second diverted the train route, and the third preserved the bridge but altered the train route. This potential adjustment might see a shift in the upper Isaan train line, avoiding the city while maintaining the current route for the Lower Isan Line.

Later in the meeting, Mr. Praphon Thamprathip from the Provincial Administrative Organization Council revealed the concerns of Korat residents. The demand for alterations in the construction pattern in the Khok Kruat Subdistrict area, transforming a ground-level runway into an elevated one, aimed at resolving traffic and drainage issues. This proposed elevated model spans 7.85 kilometers, with a corresponding increase in construction costs and duration, pending approval after a public hearing process slated for June 2023.

Mr. Kritsada, the SRT representative, acknowledged the resolution put forth by Korat residents to elevate the railway through the city. Presenting a revised report and requesting additional funds and an extension of time, he highlighted the ongoing Cabinet approval process, emphasizing the need for adherence to contractual regulations. Clarity on the project’s form is expected around mid-2024, following a comprehensive suitability study and conclusive deliberations. This crucial juncture signifies a pivotal moment for stakeholders and residents alike, as they await decisions that will shape the future of transportation in the region.
